The Car Seat Base: Why a Solid Install Matters

Tyria LockhartTyria Lockhartยท

An infant car seat is only as safe as the base it clicks into, and a loose base is one of the most common install mistakes. The base does the real work of anchoring the seat to the car.

Make the base rock solid.

  • Use either the seat belt or LATCH, never both at once
  • Push down hard while tightening to compress the cushion
  • The base should not move more than an inch at the belt path
  • Check the level indicator matches the newborn recline

A rock-solid base means a secure click every single time. Install it once, check it often, and the daily load and unload stays simple.

The base is the part of the seat that does the daily work, so a tight install there is what makes every click-in secure. A few extra minutes on install day pays off on every single ride after.
