The Nursery Temperature Range That Protects Sleep
Sleep studies consistently point to a room temperature between 68 and 72 degrees Fahrenheit as the safest range for infant sleep. Overheating is a known risk factor for sleep-related incidents, and it is easier to cause than most parents realize.
Get the temperature right and the whole room works better.
- Use a room thermometer rather than guessing by feel
- Dress the baby in one more layer than you would wear
- Keep blankets out of the crib and use a sleep sack instead
- A fan on low improves air circulation without chilling
Check the room, not just the baby. A comfortable nursery is one where you would sleep well too, and that is the simplest way to judge it.
